Hello to all Leeds Animal Protection members and supporters.
We have been busy campaigning for the animals at Horsforth, Garforth and Kirkstall Summer Fairs.
LEEDS ANIMAL PROTECTION CAMPAIGNING
Our current campaigning includes the following issues :-
vivisection – information leaflets about animal experiments, petitions and lists of medical research charities which do/do not test on animals
– information about factory farming and petitions
– information about the Leaping Bunny symbol, and about cruelty-free companies
“Our Best Friends” campaign – to end the use of dogs and cats in scientific research
League Against Cruel Sports
– info about their petition to get snares banned.
Captive Animals Protection Society
– We are giving out information about the zoo industry and circuses. CAPS have several campaigns, including one against pinioning – where captive birds have part of one wing severed, and will never be able to fly again – so that they can be held captive in zoos. Also information about reasons to boycott aquariums. details at www.captiveanimals.org
WILD ANIMALS IN CIRCUSES
Captive Animals Protection Society, along with other animal campaigning groups, have had a meeting with the Minister responsible for the promised ban on the use of wild animals in circuses. The Minister was keen to reiterate his department’s commitment to the ban, but parliamentary time has not been given to allow the ban to pass into law.On the CAPS website www.captiveanimals.org/uk-circus there is a link to contact the government and demand immediate action on the implementation of a ban on the use of wild animals in circuses.
PAMPLONA BULL RUN
League Against Cruel Sports report that STA Travel have stopped all sales to Pamplona – following the LACS campaign – to not support bull running and bullfighting
Details at www.league.org.uk
The government has admitted that during 2013, the number of animal experiments rose to 4,121,582, which is, shockingly more 11,554 experiments started than in 2012. Behind every number is an animal’s life – a life of suffering and fear. BUAV point out that what makes the rise even more shocking is that it is the third consecutive increase since the Coalition Government took office in 2010 – pledging to reduce animal experiments.
